The Nornen - a Norwegian Barque which was parked here in 1897.
The Nornen - This is one of a series.
The Nornen was a Norwegian Barque - a natty sailing vessel in her day. She was driven ashore on March 3rd 1897 after a vicious gale had dragged her from her anchorage. The valiant crew of ten oarsmen aboard the Burnham on Sea Lifeboat rescued the crew and ship's dog in the afternoon - just before she grounded on the sands.
The sea hadn't finished with her and all attempts at recovery failed. She was sold as a wreck - and what remains of the salvage still lies on the beach at Berrow 110 years later.
At 6 in the morning there isn't much activity on the beach and it's very very peaceful beside the wreck. Easy to lose yourself imagining what a beauty the Nornen must have been at her best.
