Mystery fungi

Mystery fungi

I don't know what this might be. It was small, partially eaten, and on top of a mossy log.

I used low power off-camera flash to provide the backlight coupled to a long exposure to give me detail underneath (you can see that the moss has moved a little in what was for me an impercetible breeze). The background is perhaps a little too clinical - I used a reflector as I was out to lighten it up without going too far. It gave a nice halo effect. I would have like to have taken some more pictures like this but I would have needed a spade to get this low to the other fungi.

(take 2 - 17 Nov 2007 and I've changed the image. Did anyone spot the deliberate mistake in the original? Sorry...it's too late if you didn't - I'm not telling!)
