A relatively new Stinkhorn - yet to turn to smelly slime.

A relatively new Stinkhorn - yet to turn to smelly slime.

Phallus impudicus. It smells putrid to attract flies to the slime covering the thimble shaped cap. The thimble on the top will soon turn to slime containing the spores and it is the flies that spread them around. This is another from a magnificent (but foul smelling) troop I found in a wood on the Mendip hills near Priddy
