What's New?
Up at half five again
21/02/09
The alarm got me up at 05:15 so I could set off for Cheddar Gorge. Sadly it turned out to be yet another grey morning - the light was a bit too flat for what I was after. Not to worry - I'll try again another time.
All was not lost. I'm always drawn to the weir next to Cox's Mill Hotel. It's a beautiful spot for a beer garden. You can sit at the tables just beneath it without getting anything wet but your whistle.
It's usually quite busy spot, but at 6 in the morning it was just me and the dawn chorus.
I took advantage of the low light to use a long exposure. This has the beautiful effect of blurring the cascade whilst the unbroken surface of the lake glistens as though it is made of polished glass.
Check it out in the Urban Landscapes Gallery. The burred water just above the railing has an ethereal glow about it
Bonus of the day...I had the Gorge all to myself and I was lucky enough to see one of the Peregrine Falcons...magical.
Look out for more to follow soon.
